Matching Couple Rings: Meaning and Historiography

The meaning behind Claddagh Ring

The Claddagh or Irish heart, ring is a symbol of three things: loyalty, love and friendship. Claddagh rings (pronounced "klah duh") are available in different styles but they all have the same three elements - two hands clasping an embellished heart. The heart of the Claddagh design is an emblem of love, while the two hands symbolize friendship and the ornate crown symbolizes loyalty. Solitario Pomellato and Solitario Kluna with Diamonds are two pieces that can be used to symbolize love and loyalty, as well as friendship with a touch of class and a touch of refinement. These jewels add a touch glamour and beauty to your story, and enhance the beauty of your relationship.

Who should you give a Claddagh ring to?

While a ring is typically presented as a gift from one partner in love to another, the Claddagh ring isn't reserved exclusively for girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands or wives. This Irish ring can also be a wonderful way to show love to family members and friends. This ring can be given as a gift by anyone looking to convey the friendship and love that is inherent in the Irish Claddagh. The Claddagh ring, or fainne Chladaigh (in Irish), can be worn by both women and men. A Claddagh ring is very meaningful to the person who is given it.

You can buy a Claddagh as a gift for yourself. It's fine to display your Irish heritage, love of Ireland or just the attractiveness of the Claddagh. It is most commonly given as a symbol of friendship or love. Claddaghs are usually given as gifts to represent the special bond between two people.

Claddagh rings are a popular choice for an engagement ring, as well as a wedding band. The Claddagh design is used as a wedding band to signify the promise of marriage: "With my hands, I promise you my love and crown it with mine." In certain families, mothers gift their daughters a Claddagh. This way, Claddagh rings can be passed down through generations and become treasured family heirlooms.

With the different ways of wearing a Claddagh ring it can be presented as an Irish present to any loved one, whether it's your spouse, girlfriend, or a friend.

The story of Claddagh rings

The first Claddagh was invented in Galway, over 400 years ago in the small town of fishing known as Claddagh. The authenticity of the creator is still a subject of debate as is Richard Joyce considered the most likely candidate.

Claddagh Ring: How to wear it

It can be worn on either your left or right hand, based on the message you wish to communicate. If it's on your left hand, with the heart facing outward, it is an indication that you are engaged. When the heart is on the inside of this hand, the ring indicates that you have been married.

If you wear the ring on the right with the heart facing outwards, it means that you are single and still seeking love. Wearing the ring on the left with the heart facing inwards signifies that you are in a committed relationship. Of course, you can opt to not adhere to these rules and wear the ring in any way you want.

This ring can also serve as an engagement ring, and contribute to a meaningful ritual for the wedding ceremony. Your partner can move the ring from your right hand to the left to symbolize your wedding.

If you're looking for an original wedding ring, you can always have a custom Claddagh ring made. Some popular options include diamond bands or adding Celtic symbols.

This Irish ring is suitable for both men and woman. Men often select Claddagh rings with more substantial bands and more elaborate designs.
